Top 35 Shows of 2014: No. 17 The Middle

I first started watching The Middle in 2013 and whilst I found it enjoyable I kind of stopped after the second season with the intention of picking it up one day. Then this summer I found myself watching S3 and something about the show just clicked this time round and I found myself getting through seasons 3, 4 and 5 in the space of a couple of weeks.

The Middle isn’t doing anything particularly radical or different with its 22 minute family focussed sitcom format but it has become a constant joy to watch.

I like that the focus is always on all the family, every member gets a chance to shine and I also like that the Hecks well actually like each other despite their problems. It is also refreshing to have a sitcom family who are struggling to make ends meet. Not like watching people struggle is fun but its make a change from comedies where money never seems to be a problem.

I guess The Middle has filled the hole that Raising Hope left when it ended earlier this year. It is about people that care for one and other but its also pretty damn hilarious.
